Fenton USA Presents. . . Cameo "Heron Garden"
Included in our Fenton USA Summer 2010 grouping is this
magnificent cameo carved 7-1/2'' Heron Garden Vase, which
is limited
to 195 pieces.
This vase is handcrafted in our new Persimmon color
and features an intricate
oriental sunset design by cameo artists Kelsey Murphy and Robert
Bomkamp. Can you see the herons, water vegetation and a Pagoda? Persimmon is an
overlay color, and our glassworkers and cameo carvers have
mastered the techniques required to bring it to perfection.
Persimmon must go
through a very special cooling and heating cycle to obtain just
the right shade.
When the piece is blown to shape by another worker, the outside
surface is a rich
red-orange. After the glass has been cooled to room temperature
and annealed, the cameo carver uses aluminum oxide crystal, under
pressure to cut into the surface, exposing a wide range of
red-orange and orange-yellow hues. Great individual skill and
experience are needed to control this operation, as many distinct
stages of successive cameo carving are required to create the
remarkable depth and the intricate details. The delicate shadings
add much to the allure of the vase, and the final results are a
tribute to the arts of both the glassmaker and the cameo artist.
