This week's featured items include a wonderful hand painted scene by Michelle Kibbe on our 11" Marble Alley Cat. An alert black and white dog appears to have flushed out a Bobwhite Quail.

Michelle created this realistic scene using the gray color striations as her background, which add an interesting effect to the entire scene. She added blue skies in the background and scrub grass and plants with red berries in the foreground. The hand painted details are marvelous to behold.

The Alley Cat is among the most collectible items in Fenton history and is also one of Fenton's most popular items since it was first made in 1970. Fenton collectors just can't seem to get enough of the Alley Cat's characteristic grin! Note those golden-black eyes!

The mould for this tall figurine originated at the U.S. Glass Co. in Tiffin, Ohio during the 1920s and was purchased by Fenton Art Glass in the mid-1960s. Since that time, this Alley Cat has been made in a rainbow of colors and decorative treatments. Each Bobwhite Quail Alley Cat is $180.

A great companion piece for the "Bobwhite Quail" Alley Cat is this 4.5" tall Opal Satin Fox figurine. Michelle Kibbe created  a similar design with two Bobwhite Quail and a rustic fence and scrub grass landscape. The figurine is airbrushed to create a perfect "sky blue" background for Michelle's hand painted scene. The tail is painted in soft brown tones with painted grass details.
 

Did you know. . . Bobwhite Quail are not considered good fliers. They can fly relatively short distances, with their average flight lasting for about 5.1 seconds. However, they have strong legs to help them walk or run quickly away from danger. Each Bobwhite Quail Fox Figurine is $80.

We're sure that Kim Barley's many fans will agree that "It's never too early for Halloween!" Kim designed a fun Halloween themed design on our 8" Opal Satin Chessie Cat Covered Box. The front features grinning carved pumpkins and a purple bat that seem to be disturbing the black kitty's catnap! The kitty's blue-green eyes are wide open! Kim talent for painting whimsical details shines on this two-part covered box . . . from the spider dangling from a web with the word "HALLOWEEN" at the top to the purple bat and laughing carved pumpkins.

Fenton Art Glass created this item especially for the Chesapeake & Ohio railway company. The popular "Chessie" cat character was used as a symbol for the "C&O" Railway. They used this artwork with their advertising slogan that when traveling on their railway you would "sleep like a kitten".

In addition to the artist's signature, the base of this box is embossed with the words "Chessie by Fenton". Each Boo Halloween Chessie Cat Covered Box is $150.

Robin Spindler's sister recently showed her a photo of a beautiful "Glasswing Butterfly". Robin was inspired by this photo to create her version of this beautiful butterfly as her design on this 7" tall Crystal Iceberg Paperweight.

Robin used a "reverse painting" technique to create her "Glasswing". Part of the design is applied on the reverse side of the paperweight and then painted over it. She finished the design by painting on the front, creating a beautiful three-dimensional effect.

The photos below also show the back side of the paperweight. You can see where Robin painted a floral background and the clear with black outlined delicate butterfly wings that have a transparent look.

Robin then painted a soft creamy white to cover the floral background on the back, leaving the clear glass and painted details of the wings. Each brushstroke is meticulously executed and a tribute to Robin's talent and skills.

The beauty of this Crystal Iceberg Paperweight was challenging to capture with a camera lens, so please take our word for it that it is beautiful.

Though the Glasswing Butterfly's wings appear to be quite delicate, they can carry up to 40 times their own body weight. These beautiful butterflies are abundant in Mexico, Panama, and Colombia, but may also be found as far north as Florida.

Michelle Kibbe's artistic talent for capturing wildlife is evident on this 5.5" round Cobalt Paperweight. Her rendition of a 12-point Buck is so true to life. . . it looks as if that deer is staring right at you. . . always watchful, always alert!

She created a forest scene in the background with barren trees and a milky blue sky. The majestic Buck stands alert, perhaps listening for the sound of an approaching predator. White-tail Bucks shed and re-grow their antlers every year. Each winter a Buck sheds, or casts, their antlers. They then start growing a new set of antlers. Antlers are the fastest organ regeneration in the animal family, growing up to several inches per day.

Below: Kim continues to channel her whimsical side with this adorable hand painted design on our 5" Opal Satin Stylized Cat figurine. The body is a blend of soft shades of purple. Kim added large "candy corn" shaped eyes and lots of candy corn accents to her design.

A trio of pumpkins are stacked to create perhaps the first ever "Pumpkin Snowman", complete with twig arms! A black cat with white fangs stands guard among the candy corn, white stars and blue moon. Polka dot, candy, and star accents complete the piece. Each Pumpkin Snowman Stylized Cat Figurine is $95.
