Memorial Day. . .

Three years after the Civil War ended, on May 5, 1868, the head of an organization of Union veterans (the Grand Army of the Republic  known as the GAR) established Decoration Day as a time for the nation to decorate the graves of the war dead with flowers. Major General John A. Logan declared that Decoration Day should be observed on May 30. It is believed that date was chosen because flowers would be in bloom all over the country. The first large observance was held that year at Arlington National Cemetery, across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C.

─ US Dept. of Veterans Affairs

"Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden,
meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty."
– President John F. Kennedy

Michelle Kibbe created a remarkable rendition of a Great Horned Owl on this 4" Opal Satin Iceberg Paperweight. The color and hand painted details are amazing, especially the eyes! Michelle added a subtle background in complementary colors to complete this piece. Did you know. . . One of the most common owls in North America, the Great Horned Owl has no horns. It is named because of the tufts of feathers atop its head, called plumicorns. Their big eyes and wide pupils allow Great Horned Owls to easily spot their prey. Unlike people’s eyes, their eyes don’t move in their sockets, but the owls can swivel their heads to look in any direction. Each Great Horned Owl Iceberg Paperweight is $80.

A wonderful addition to any cat or figurine collection! This 5" Stylized Cat Figurine is handcrafted in the new Eggplant color.  Kim Barley's hand painted design includes a colorful bunch of flowers including vibrant violas and daisies and other blossoms. Lavender leaf stems and dotted swiss-style accents encircle the figurine. Kim created large, beautiful blue eyes and golden heart-shaped nose and whiskers. Note that interesting green butterfly with white flower tips on the wings! Each Viola Petals Stylized Cat Figurine is $95.

If you liked the "Carousel" Horse Figurine offered in our recent newsletters, we're sure you'll love this "Dragon Carousel" Horse by Michelle Kibbe.

Handcrafted in Opal Satin glass, this 3.75" figurine features green wings attached to the saddle. Michelle added delicate brown and white scales on the chest and body. A green halter and lush brown mane complete this cute figurine.

Designed by former Fenton sculptor Suzi Whitaker in 2006, the "Fenton Foal" has become a collector favorite. Each Dragon Carousel Horse Figurine is $80.

The impressive size and shape of this 11.5" Opal Satin Vase provides an excellent glass canvas for Robin Spindler's depiction of a Long-eared Owl. She painted the vase background to resemble tree bark and added some green leaves with red berry clusters. The Long-eared Owl is perched on a branch. The hand painted details are beautifully done, especially those mesmerizing golden eyes! Note the pale patches above the eyes, a characteristic of this species that makes it look like it has eyebrows. Did you know. . . Their slim shape help Long-eared owls hide from predators. When perched, they stretch out their body and flatten their feathers to make themselves look like a tree limb! Each Long-eared Owl Vase is $220.

Robin Spindler has transformed our 3.6" Opal Satin Dinosaur Figurine into a Sabertooth Dino! Note those long fangs! Robin hand painted the body of this popular figurine in the golden tones and distinctive markings of the Sabertooth. this makes a perfect gift for the Dino enthusiast, child or figurine collector! Each Sabertooth Dinosaur Figurine is $80 and limited to 22.

Our latest fun Halloween-themed design from Kim Barley is appropriately named "Witches Inn".

This main feature of this 5.75" Opal Satin Ghost Figurine is a spooky and ghoulish green-faced witch peering out of a window. You'll love this witch's expression− from the green eyes, the wart on the nose and those two teeth within the ornery grin!

You'll love all the marvelous details on this figurine! A smiling "newt" peeks out from the witch's hat and black spider with googly eyes dangles from a spider web above the hat. Note the "Book of Spells" with potion bottles and a blackbird nearby. A lantern and two flying bats also adorn this Ghost figurine.

Kim hand lettered the name of this figurine "Witches Inn" and added golden stars within the space of the outstretched arms. Each Witches Inn Ghost Figurine is $115.

Wow, what a combination ... classic Fenton Chocolate glass and a splendid, colorful hand painted Peacock decoration by Fenton artist Michelle Kibbe. The Alley Cat stands 11" tall, and Michelle's hand painted decoration contrasts beautifully with the varied Chocolate
shades within the glass. The Peacock struts its stuff in full splendor, and a vivid floral motif adds to the overall appeal of this Alley Cat figurine. Don't overlook those expressive eyes or the Alley Cat's distinctive grin.

Fenton animal figurines on the fount as pressed are among the most popular Fenton collectibles, and this one-of-a-kind hand painted 5165 Cat (5.5" tall overall) from Fenton artist Michelle Kibbe is sure to find a place in someone's collection. Michelle's "leopard cat" is really striking to see, as she faithfully hand painted every "spot" and added those wonderful blue eyes! The black glass used to make this figurine on fount is one of the premier colors in Fenton Art Glass history, and Michelle created special hand painted color effects, as you can see from the photos (note the paw prints on the fount!).  These Fenton's eBay auctions will end at 2 p.m. (ET) on Wednesday, May 29.
